Brilliant Bowler! Perhaps these words truly describe Stuart Broad's legacy in cricket. Some bowlers are known for getting hit badly while others are known for their wonderful careers. Stuart Broad is both of them.
The England pacer is quite infamous for getting hit for 6 consecutive sixes by Yuvraj Singh during T20 World Cup 2007. However, like every other sportsman, Stuart Broad made a classic comeback to develop himself as one of the best bowlers in international cricket.
Stuart Broad is a right-arm pacer and left-handed batsman, just like his best friend James Anderson. The duo dominated opposition teams since their early days and became one of the best pairs in the pace attack.
Early and Personal Life
Stuart Broad was born in June 1986 to Chris Board and Mitchelle Broad in Nottingham, England. He was from a cricket family as his father was part of the England team in The Ashes and was a popular cricketer. He grew up with his sister Gemma and did secondary schooling.
Following his father's legacy, Stuart Broad started his career in cricket after moving away from a football goalkeeper in his early days. He was an opening batter at the start but switched to a pace bowler later.
Domestic Career
Stuart Broad entered domestic cricket in 2004 at the age of 18 and impressed everyone with his pace attack. He played for Leicestershire from 2005 to 2007 and Nottinghamshire from 2008 to 2023. He represented his domestic country for a long time.
International Career
Stuart Broad got his big break in August 2006, when he played his first international game against Pakistan in August 2006. Later, he also made his ODI debut in the same series. He had to wait for his first Test game for almost one year.
In December 2006, Broad played his first Test against Pakistan and entered the longest format. He retired from all forms of cricket in 2023 after The Ashes. Notably, he was active in all three formats and played 50-plus T20Is and 100-plus Tests and ODIs for England.
Franchise Career
In franchise T20I cricket, the England pacer played for team Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. He also represented Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. However, he refrained from franchise leagues in foreign nations to focus on national duty and domestic circuit.
Legacy
Stuart Broad finished as the 5th highest wicket-taker of all time with 604 wickets in Tests, 178 wickets in ODIs, and 65 wickets in Tests. He held a bowling average between 22+ to 30+ across three formats. Towards the final stage of his career, he was a dominant force behind England's pace attack with James Anderson.
