'A dashing wicketkeeper'- that is what we can call Dhruv Jurel after his stunning Test debut in the India vs England Test series. Dhruv Jurel made his dashing debut in the series with a 90-run knock in one game. The right-handed batsman slammed 190 runs in 4 innings on his Test debut.
Dhruv Jurel is an emerging wicketkeeper-batsman, who has played a lot of seasons in the Uttar Pradesh domestic team. The right-handed batsman also gave a decent in the Indian Premier League in his debut 2023 season.
Early Life and Career
Dhruv Jurel was born in Agra City in Uttar Pradesh on January 21, 2001. His father Nem Chand is a former Army Officer who was part of the Kargil war in 1999. His mother Rajani Jurel is a homemaker. Dhruv has only one sibling- a sister named Neeru Jurel.
Dhruv Jurel started his cricket career with a cricket academy in Noida. Later, he was picked by Uttar Pradesh in Under 14, Under 16, and Under-19 teams.
He got a big break in 2021 when the Uttar Pradesh team featured him in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Later, the wicketkeeper batter was selected as the vice-captain of the India U-19 team for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2020, where Team India finished as runners-up.
International Career
After his impressive performances in the Indian Premier League and domestic circuit, Dhruv Jurel secured a place in the national team in February-March 2024 during the home Test series against England. Wicketkeeper KS Bharat's consistent struggles with the bat forced selectors to opt for a different wicketkeeper and Dhruv Jurel stole the spot.
Jurel slammed a 90-run knock in the crucial game that set the stage for India's victory in the match. Finishing with 190 runs in 4 innings, Jurel justified his selection and proved that he could be a promising Test wicketkeeper-batsman for Team India in the future.
IPL Career
Dhruv Jurel was picked by Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 auction for Rs. 20 lakh. He made his debut in the same year and impressed with his high strike rate while batting.
He played a few match-winning knocks in the lower order.
He finished the IPL 2023 season on a high, hitting 152 runs in 13 games at a 172+ strike rate. With his hard-hitting style in the lower order, he looks like a replica of MS Dhoni, who played as a wicketkeeper-batsman in the lower order throughout his career.
