Most Fours in an Innings in IPL

There is little denying that T20 cricket is the slam-bang form of cricket and is defined by it fast-paced, high-scoring nature. With only 120 deliveries to face in an innings, the batsmen fire on all cylinders right from the start.

The IPL is not an exception either. In fact, very few tournaments in the world have witnessed as many high-scoring games as the IPL. The IPL is undoubtedly the biggest T20 competition in the world. The best players from around the world participate in the tournament every year.

Here we are taking a look at teams that have hit most fours in an innings in the IPL. Over the years, several batsmen have shown that one can excel in the shortest format of the game even by relying on fours. While sixes are certainly more glamorous, fours are no less effective.

Hitting a six always carries a risk, whereas finding a four is generally a safer option. Even without taking the aerial route and giving the opposition a chance to take a wicket, batsmen can keep the scoreboard ticking at a good pace by relying on fours.

Over the years in the IPL, one has seen batsmen scoring big by relying mainly on fours. Who can forget Paul Valtathy's iconic 120-run knock against Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2011. During that knock, the former Punjab Kings batsman had hit only two sixes but as many as 19 fours, showing that one can play iconic knocks even by relying on fours. No batsman has managed to hit more than 19 fours in an IPL innings so far.

AB de Villiers, who was known for his six-hitting abilities, also hit a record-equaling 19 fours during his 133-run knock against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2015.

As far as the teams are concerned, the record for hitting most fours in an innings is held by Sunrisers Hyderabad. They became only the second team in the IPL history to hit more than 30 fours in an innings when they hit 34 fours while scoring 286 against Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025.

The only other team to hit more than 30 fours in an IPL innings is Delhi Capitals who hit 31 fours against now-defunct Gujarat Lions in IPL 2017.
