Arshdeep Singh is a left-arm pacer who has cemented his spot in the T20Is for India. The left-armer has played a lot of T20I games for India. However, he has only played a few ODI games and is yet to play in Tests.
Arshdeep Singh grabbed the limelight with his consistent performance in Indian Premier League for Punjab Kings. He was seen as a death-over specialist. Later, he finally got a chance to make his international debut in July 2022.
Early Life and Career
Arshdeep Singh was born in Guna City in Madhya Pradesh on February 5, 1999. His father Darshan Singh was a CRPF officer who was posted in Madhya Pradesh. His mother Baljit Kaur was a homemaker. Arshdeep grew up with his elder brother Akashdeep and sister Guleen Kaur. He shifted to Chandigarh later.
The left-arm pacer played for the Punjab domestic team since 2018. In the same year, he was selected for Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2018.
In 2019, he was picked by IPL franchise Punjab Kings. With his consistent performance, the left-arm became a regular member of the side in IPL.
International Career
After a marvelous show in IPL 2022, Arshdeep Singh was picked for the England tour in July 2022. He made his international debut in July 2022 with a T20I against England. He also played an ODI in the same year.
While he was not preferred for ODIs, he became a regular member of the T20I side. With selectors focusing on the T20 World Cup 2024, Arshdeep emerged as a powerful young pacer for the Indian team.
Arshdeep Singh has shown a wonderful form in the shortest format. He has an average of 20 and an economy of 8+ and is expected to complete 50 T20I games soon. He is also picked for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
IPL Career
The pacer made his IPL debut in the 2019 season when Punjab Kings bought him in the auction. Since then, he has been part of the franchise. During the IPL 2022 mega auction, Punjab Kings retained Arshdeep Singh as one of the pacers for Rs. 4 crores.
Arshdeep Singh has been impressive since his debut season. His best season was 2023, when he grabbed 17 wickets. He has bowled at a decent economy, often termed his X-factor.
Arshdeep Singh was part of the Asian Games squad in 2023. He is an emerging young pacer in Indian cricket who has a fruitful career in front of him. Notably, Arshdeep Singh is the only left-arm regular pacer in India T20I team right now.
